Everyday Kindness

Simply kind every day

Day 4 - January 4, 2008

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

I did a lot of small things today.  I said I would take Rosie out so that D. could sleep an extra half hour.  Then I actually took Rosie to the park.  I didn’t scream at the milkman (yes, Denver still has milkmen) when he wanted to go over all the forms while I stood freezing in the door.  I posted nice comments.  I set a limit with the work in progress friend from Day 2.  I didn’t bug D. with little stuff (like the milkman).  And… well, the night is young.

The focus on kindness has encouraged me to act on my kind impulses rather than hold back.  While I may not have actually behaved differently a week ago, my intention was clearer today.  And that’s cool.

I received this note from Heart in SF about her experience with the everyday kindness journey:

“I just came back from the store and had a small revelation about kindness.  A man who is always walking around town gesticulating wildly and talking to himself got on line behind me and I suggested that he go ahead of me because he had fewer items than I did.  He did so without otherwise acknowledging me.

“It occurred to me that I do things like that as a matter of course and have never thought of them as small acts of kindness, just normal behavior.  Maybe I’m actually a “kind person” even if I don’t do such things with the intention of being kind,  just the intention of helping someone.

“I should really try to appreciate myself more. “

How is your journey going?
